about

Here it is - blown out evidence from our 2009 Rated O tour - a raw, "bootleg" style recording of The O playing in the storied London venue The Garage - pronounced with an accent on the first syllable in case you don't know. The show happened to be our second time playing at The Garage. The first was in 2000 - when we flew over for one show. An entire tour had been cancelled for lack of advance ticket sales. That was absurd! No one bought advance tickets for Oneida - didn't they know this? It was our introduction to the cruel and heartless UK music biz. Promised guest list spots to a Motorhead concert that didn't materialize (we talked our way in anyway). Rehearsals in a boggy studio were combined with some of the worst food imaginable. We stayed in London for an entire week because we'd already bought non-refundable tickets for the time frame of that fantasy of a tour. The UK of 2000 was unrecognizable to the UK of today. Pubs closed by 10 or 11pm. But it was so exciting to be in this city that bore so many of our rock heroes. That first Garage show had an audience of 80 people and we lost thousands upon thousands of dollars that we paid off for many years, but perhaps we planted a seed or two.

So less than ten years later, this 2009 show was a conquering return of sorts. Our triple album Rated O was released to some fanfare. We may have come close to selling out The Garage that night - but never mind that. We'd all been listening to The Bevis Frond for at least 15 years at this point. Nick Saloman's albums were constant companions in the van. . .so we were all thrilled that he'd accepted our invite to jam with us that night. Before the gig, we all hung out for pints at a pub nearby - and I remember Nick telling me that Joe Meek's studio was right down the road. It's special when your heroes are good blokes as well!

We'd worked our asses off on this tour - and were exhausted. You always come to a point in a tour where you can't believe that you actually have to perform. It's not possible. But then you go on and transcend. That's what we did that night. . .thankfully someone recorded it! If you listen closely you can hear Nick's guitar pedal spit out a weird drum beat during a break between songs. Thank you Nick for your playing and inspiration!

There is one rare song making its recording debut in this set: "Let It Rain." It was a jam we worked out for a while in the studio, and recorded a few versions of it - but we never felt like we nailed it. It was nice to go back to this set and hear a well played version of it. There's also another rare appearance of "Kaddenium" - a tune for Dave Kadden. If you don't know him, you ought to!

Hope you enjoy it - Kid Millions and the O
